BERLIN – As part of the focus of the Islam Conference, which will be held on June 25, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schauble has announced that it was his long-term initiative that Islam attains equal legal status to that of Christianity, The Local reported on June 23.  To date Islam is not recognized as an official religion in the German constitution, nor are there provisions for providing Islamic religion teachers to public schools.
