India: First Conviction in Orissa Riots Case

PHULBANI – A Phulbani court has issued the first conviction in the Orrisa riots case, that took place in 2008, sentencing Chakradhara Mallick to four years in prison for his role in instigating violence against the Christian community, Asia News reported on July 1.  Despite this first conviction, many Christians have still not returned home out of fear as they continue to receive threats from members of the Hindu community and police response to such threats has been slow in the past.
