Indonesia: Death Row Inmates Denied Last Rites

AsiaNews reports that three death row inmates in Indonesia, Fabianus Tibo, Marinus Riwu and Dominggus da Silva, were denied the right to attend mass, confess and receive communion one last time prior to their deaths. The decision to withhold last rites from the prisoners violates Indonesian law, which states that death row inmates are allowed to have their last requests properly taken care of.  The three men were the only ones tried for massacres which occurred during a period of sectarian violence in Poso six years ago, and were executed by firing squad on September 21st.  All three men will be buried in South Sulawesi, despite Dominggus da Silva’s request that his body be repatriated.
