Iran: Christian Couple Released After One Week’s Detention

Radio Free Europe reports that a Christian couple detained last week by Iranian authorities was released on bail, with no reason given for the arrest.  Fereshteh Dibaj and Reza Montazami, who run an independent church, were taken for questioning on September 26, while authorities confiscated their computer, Christian books, and other personal belongings.  In the weeks leading up to the arrest, the couple had received a warning from the authorities telling them to cease holding prayer meetings in their home.

Fereshteh is the daughter of Mehdi Dibaj, an Assemblies of God minister who spent time in prison and was sentenced to death for his faith in 1993.  Six months after an international outcry forced his release from prison, he was abducted and murdered in Tehran.
