Iraq: Orthodox Priest Kidnapped and Decapitated in Mosul

The Associated Press reports that the decapitated body of Orthodox priest Fr. Amer Iskander was found October 11 in Mosul, three days after he was kidnapped.  His kidnappers had demanded $350,000 in ransom money and an apology from his church for Pope Benedict’s comments on Islam.  Ironically, Fr. Iskander’s parish, St. Ephrem Orthodox church in Mosul, had already displayed signs condemning the statement prior to the kidnappings and had called for good relations between Muslims and Christians.  The message was displayed again after the kidnapping at the kidnappers’ request, but the kidnappers abruptly cut off contact in the middle of ransom negotiations.
