UK: British Airlines Employee Suspended for Refusal to Remove Cross Necklace

The Telegraph reports that Nadia Eweida, a check-in worker for British Airlines, plans to take legal action against her employer for a dispute over religious jewelry which took place in September.  Ms. Eweida, a Christian of Egyptian descent, claims BA forced her to take unpaid leave after she refused to remove a small cross necklace.  While the airline permits employees to wear turbans, hijabs and bangles, the cross was considered an “adornment” and could only be worn if concealed under clothing.
