India: MP’s Election Declared Invalid for “Manipulation of Religious Passions”

The New Kerala reports that on October 31, the Kerala High Court declared the election of PC Thomas to the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian Parliament) invalid after PM Ismail, whom Thomas had defeated by nearly 1,000 votes, contested the election on the grounds that Thomas had violated election norms by manipulating “religious passions” by printing pictures of Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa alongside his own.
