Turkey: Christian converts charged with insulting Turkishness

AsiaNews reports that two Christian converts, Turan Topal, 46, and Hakan Tastan, 37, were charged October 11 with “insulting Turkishness”, inciting hatred against Islam and secretly compiling data on private citizens, in the course of trying to set up a course on the Bible.   The two had been under surveillance for over a month, based upon a trip that the two men made several months ago to meet a teacher and students at a high school that had requested a visit from an Bible correspondence course.   After the visit, parents of other students complained that the men were “promoting missionary activity” among grade school students.
