Malaysia: Government Pledges to Punish Those Involved in Mass Conversion Prank

The Associated Press reports that the Malaysian government is investigating a prank concerning a mass baptism and will punish the perpetrators. About 1,000 Malays gathered to protest outside a Catholic church in Perak state on November 5, after receiving text messages reporting there would be a mass conversion of Muslims. Muslims in Malaysia are not legally permitted to convert, and proselytizing of Muslims is prohibited. The crowd dispersed after discovering the ceremony was in fact a communion mass for about 100 Indian children.
