UK: Latest clash over the wearing of the Niqab

The Telegraph reports that the debate over the niqab in Britain has now turned to whether or not lawyers will be permitted to wear them in the courtroom. On November 6, an immigration judge in Stoke-on-Trent asked a Muslim lawyer, Shabnam Mughal, to remove her niqab during arguments as he was not able to hear her clearly. Ms. Mughal refused, and the case was adjourned twice before being put on hold until November 13, allowing the lawyers time to hold a consultation on the subject with the president of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal. This follows the case of a teacher in Yorkshire who refused to remove her Niqab in the classroom.
