Pakistan: Islamist Coalition Progresses Towards the Creation of Morality Police

The Telegraph reports that a coalition of Islamist politicians, the Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA – United Action Forum) in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province have passed a bill which will create a morality police, which they hail as the first step towards introducing Islamic law across Pakistan.  The bill is designed to set up guidelines to morally police the region, in which the MMA has already banned music and billboards featuring women.  Opponents of the bill fear the proposed moral police will turn the region into something reminiscent of Afghanistan under the Taliban regime.
