Uzbekistan: Police Burn Bibles, Hymn Books

Forum 18 reports that on October 25, Uzbek police raided a Baptist church in the southern town of Karshi, fining two visiting members over 45 times Uzbekistan’s minimum monthly salary for their participation in unregistered religious services.  During the raid the police confiscated Bibles and hymnals, which an Uzbek court later ordered burned. Uzbekistan forbids all unregistered religious activity, and heavily fines those who disobey.
