Serbia: Government Threatens to Strip Religious Organizations of Legal Status

Forum 18 reports that the Serbian Public Administration Ministry continues to try to strip religious organizations of their legal status, a move which would prevent them from accessing their bank accounts or from making decisions as a corporate legal body.  Such organizations include those which are not church and do not conduct worship, such as the Serbian Evangelical Alliance.  The Ministry now requires that all religious communities must register (or re-register) to gain legal status, regardless of what their previous legal status had been before the Ministry’s abrupt change in policy.
