Malaysia: Opposition Leader Asks for Guarantees of Religious Freedom

Sun2Surf reports that Malaysia’s opposition leader, Lim Kit Siang, is urging the government to amend the constitution in such a way as to prevent conflict over religious burials, after a second conflict between families of deceased non-Muslims and Malaysia’s Islamic authorities, who have tried to claim the bodies for burial. Lim has asked for a revision to Article 121 (1A) of the constitution, to ensure that Article 11 – which guarantees religious freedom – would be fully protected.
