China: Christians to Stand Trial for Protesting Demolition of Churches

Reuters reports that eight Christians will stand trial on December 22 for “inciting violent resistance to the enforcement of the law” after they protested against the government’s demolition of a church. The eight were part of a group of about 3,000 who took part in a protest in Xiaoshan last July. Xiaoshan has a population of about 64,000 Christians, who have traditionally resisted government control over their religious practices.
