Uzbekistan: Last Jehovah’s Witness Community Threatened with Closure

Forum 18 reports that in the midst of continued troubles for members of Muslim and Protestant communities, Uzbekistan’s only remaining “legal” community of Jehovah’s Witnesses is threatened with closure. Officials warned the community, based in Chirchik, near the capital of Tashkent, that it would lose its registration unless it corrected what “was wrong in its practice” by December 17th. The move is similar to the way in which authorities shut down another Jehovah’s Witness community in Fergana earlier in the year.
