Kenya: Government Requests Information on Faithful from Imams, Bishops

The East African Standard reports that the Kenyan government has asked the heads of mosques and churches to supply information about their congregations, including estimates of the size of the congregation and names of clerics and attendees. Many religious leaders refused the request, which comes during the lead-up to an election year in Kenya, saying they fear that the government will manipulate religious communities during next year’s campaign season.
