Israel: Haifa Opens Municipal Facilities for Religious Use

The Jerusalem Post reports that a Haifa District Court has decided to grant Jehovah’s Witnesses the right to use Haifa’s Convention Center for their activities, including lectures on the New Testament. Critics of the decision, who say the Court chose to emphasize the ‘democratic’ instead of ‘Jewish’ nature of Israel, claim such a precedent will pave the way for more missionary groups to operate in Israel. Current Israeli legislation forbids proselytism only when economic incentive or emotional manipulation is involved.
