New Zealand: Government Rejects Asylum for Iranian Convert

The New Zealand Herald reports that New Zealand’s Refugee Status Appeals Authority has denied asylum to Thomas Yadegary, an Iranian who converted to Catholicism after coming to New Zealand in 1994. Yadegary has been held in jail without charge since 2004, after refusing to sign papers allowing New Zealand to return him to Iran, where apostasy is punishable by death. Decision 74704 of the New Zealand Refugee Appeals Authority (Thomas Yadegary)
