Uzbekistan: Government Closes Another Jehovah’s Witness Community

Forum 18 reports that on January 30, the Jehovah’s Witness community of Fergana, Uzbekistan, failed in its appeal to regain legal status, leaving the country with only one legally active Jehovah’s Witness community. The Fergana community was stripped of its legal status in August 2006 after the government alleged that it had engaged in missionary activity and failed both to report a change of address and to submit religious literature for assessment by the proper authorities. Future religious activity by members of the community will be illegal and subject to punishment.
