Eritrea: Arrests of Muslims, Christians Continue

Journal Chretien reports that Habtom Tesfamichel, the pastor of the Evangelical Full Gospel Church in Asmara, Eritrea, was taken into custody by police and held for questioning on January 23. Tesfamichel had replaced Kidane Woldu as pastor of the Full Gospel Church after Woldu was jailed in March 2005. It is also reported that in recent days, at least 35 Muslims have disappeared from the town of Keren, and are presumed to be held by authorities. At least 70 Eritrean Muslims are currently in jail for opposing a government-appointed mufti.
