Egypt: Government Imprisons Blogger for “Inciting Hatred” of Islam

Reporters Without Borders reports that Egyptian blogger Abdel Kareem Nabil Suleiman has been sentenced to four years in prison, three for “inciting hatred of Islam” and one for insulting president Hosni Mubarak. Suleiman’s blog often criticized the Egyptian government and several religious institutions in the country. Egypt’s constitution provides for freedom of the press, but in practice fails to protect journalists.
