Uzbekistan: Two Protestants Charged with Illegal Religious Activity

Forum 18 reports that two Pentecostal Christians from Karakalpakstan, northwest Uzbekistan, a region in which any non-Orthodox and non-Muslim religious activity is illegal, have been charged with “violating the law on religious organizations” and will face up to five years in jail if convicted. The two men, Makset Djabbarbergenov and Salauat Serikbayev, were among 18 Protestants detained on January 15 during a raid by the town prosecutor’s office on a private home.
