Iran: Evidence Confirms University Expelled Bahá’í Due to Religion

Bahá’í World News Service reports that a memo from Iran’s Payame Noor University confirms the nature of the expulsions of Bahá’í students which occurred in universities across the country earlier this year. The document, dated November 2, 2006, states that government policy is that Bahá’ís cannot attend Iranian universities: those who apply should be barred from enrolling, and those already enrolled should be expelled. Since Iranian universities removed a question about religious affiliation from their applications two years ago, 178 Bahá’ís had managed to enroll. Of that number, however, 70 had been expelled during the current school year.
