Turkey: Law of Foundations Remains Unchanged

The Turkish Daily News reports that the Justice Commission of the Turkish Parliament has opted not to make any changes to the country’s Law on Foundations, following a veto of the country’s president, Ahmet Necdet Sezer. Sezer rejected an article on foreign-run foundations and asked for a review of nine other proposed changes to the law. The Law on Foundations affects property belonging to religious communities, an issue of special sensitivity for non-Muslim groups in Turkey. Background on the law may be found on Forum 18‘s website.
