Malaysia: Detention Extended for “Uncooperative” ex-Muslim

The Associated Press reports that an Islamic court in Malaysia has extended Revathi Masoosai’s time in detention by 80 days, saying she has not cooperated during the hundred days that she has been held by Malaysia’s Islamic Religious Department. Masoosai, who was born Muslim but raised as Hindu by her grandmother, had her 15-month-old daughter taken from her by Islamic authorities, who placed the baby in the care of her Muslim mother. As Masoosai’s official identification states she is Muslim, neither her conversion nor her marriage to a Hindu man can be recognized by the state.
