Vietnam: Two Religious Freedom Advocates Arrested

Compass Direct reports that two Protestant lawyers arrested in early March may be charged with distributing “material harmful to the state”. Nguyen Van Dai, a member of Advocates International, a group of Christian human rights lawyers, had advocated for improved human rights standards, including increased religious freedom, and had many friends in Vietnam’s house churches. Le This Cong Nhan, the second lawyer, was also well-connected to the house church community. Lawyers willing to defend the two have been prevented by police from contacting the two prisoners.
