Egypt: Coptic Converts Refused New Identity Documents

ADN Kronos International reports that the Egyptian government has refused to alter the religious identity of ten Copts who, after converting to Islam, have decided to re-convert to Christianity. As Egyptian identity cards state the bearer’s religion, the ten had applied for new identification documents after re-conversion, only to be told that the government would not issue them new documents, as Shari’a law forbids conversion away from Islam.
