Iran: Violators of Religious Dress Code May Risk Banishment

Reuters reports that Saeed Mortazavi, Teheran’s prosecutor, intends to ban women from Iran’s capital for up to five years if they repeatedly violate the country’s Islamic dress code. In comments published April 24, Mortazavi condemned women who stray from the dress code as “decadent models” who “endanger the security and dignity of young men”. Currently, violators risk fines as well as lashes and imprisonment.
