Serbia: Ongoing Registration Problems for Religious Communities

Forum 18 reports that religious communities in Serbia continue to experience difficulties in registration, with only seven communities managing to register since the country enacted a new religion law. As of May 7, all religious communities who existed as legal entities before the new law came into force and which have not reapplied for registration will lose their status. Without legal status, religious communities may not own property, have bank accounts, publish literature or invite foreign religious workers to the country.
