Belarus: Pastor Fined for Religious Activity

Forum 18 reports that Belarusian authorities fined pastor Antoni Bokun 20 times the minimum monthly wage for an “illegal mass meeting” following a raid on a Pentecost service in which Bokun took part, but did not preach [deleted “at”] . Despite the fact that Bokun’s church, John the Baptist Pentecostal, is registered with the government, authorities continue to prevent the church from renting a building, leaving the community to conduct worship in private homes. However, the church had failed to obtain the approval of local authorities, required under Belarus’ Demonstrations Law of 2003 for all religious events which occur outside designated places of worship.
