Thailand: Government Rejects Proposal for State Religion

The Bangkok Post reports that Thailand’s Constitution Drafting Committee has rejected proposed amendments which would have made Buddhism the state religion. The Committee chose to uphold previous versions of the Constitution which promote freedom of religion, with Prasong Soonsiri, a Thai official, stating that although Buddhism was the majority religion in Thailand, “Other religions must be protected and promoted equally”.
