Canada: Muslim Congress Asks for Protection from Islamic Extremists

The CanWest News Service reports that the Canadian Muslim Congress has asked Ottawa’s attorney general to classify referring to someone as “anti-Islam” or an apostate as a hate crime.  As apostasy and blasphemy are charges that can carry the death penalty in Muslim countries, and being called “anti-Islam” amounts to a thinly veiled death threat, say the Congress.  Even in Canada, the group alleges, there are Muslims “willing to take it upon themselves to carry out such a sentence.”
