Vietnam: New Directive Issued on Religious Land

HANOI – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued Directive 1940/CT-TTg, on houses and land relating to religion, with the aim of ensuring uniform management and use of these properties and in line with the law, the Vietnam News Agency reported on January 7. The Prime Minister asked government ministries, sectors and central municipal and provincial people’s committees to review their master plans regarding land management and settle issues related to religion immediately to ensure the harmonization between national and religious interests. The Prime Minister stressed that these changes must take place in accordance with the law, stressing the principle that the Party and State respect and ensure religious organizations and followers’ rights to practice their religion in compliance with the law as well as their legitimate needs for houses and land for religious purposes.
