Germany: Jehovah’s Witnesses Seek State Recognition

HESSE – The Jehovah’s Witness community in Germany continues to seek recognition as a religious faith rather than its current designation as a sect, Spiegel International reported on June 10.  In a recent case, the state of Hesse is currently seeking to pursue criminal charges in the case of Marian J., a Jehovah’s Witness, who died during childbirth after refusing to accept a blood transfusion in July 2008.
