France: Parliamentary Commission Seeks to Restrict Wearing of Burqa

PARIS – The French government may introduce legislation on the wearing of the burqa if a parliamentary commission finds the religious attire to be degrading for women, AFP reported on June 19. France passed a controversial law in 2004 forbidding girls from wearing veils in state schools as part of the government’s drive to defend secularism.
