Canada: Supreme Court Rules Teenager Must Receive Blood Transfusion

MANITOBA – The Supreme Court has ruled that social workers had the right to require a Jehovah’s Witness teenager receive a blood transfusion, even though it was against her religious beliefs, Reuters reported on June 26.  The teenager was under the age of 16, at which age, under Canadian law, an individual is considered a ‘mature minor’ capable of making his/her own decisions.
