Turkey: Novelist Acquitted on Charges of Inciting Religious Hatred

ISTANBUL – The Turkish novelist Nedim Gursel has been acquitted in court on charges of inciting religious hatred, a charge that falls under the nation’s blasphemy law, the Guardian reported on June 26.  A complaint by a citizen against Gursal’s novel The Daughters of Islam had received the support of the Turkish directorate of religious affairs in 2008.
