UK: Teacher’s Anti-Discrimination Code Reworded After Faith Groups Object

LONDON – The General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) has reworded an anti-discrimination code after faith groups objected to a ruling that would have required that teachers promote beliefs and lifestyles at odds with their own faith, the Guardian reported on July 2.  Sarah Stephens, director of policy at the GTCE,insisted that it had not “caved in” to the faith groups’ demands, but acknowledged that the council had changed the wording to relate only to teachers’ actions, and not their values or beliefs.
