Kenya: Government Rules Muslim Girls May Wear Headscarf to School

NAIROBI – In response to some public schools forbidding Muslim girls from wearing the hijab to school, the government has informed all schools that the constitution protects religious freedom, and that therefore the wearing of religious apparel in schools is protected, Spero News reported on July 21.  The Education Permanent Secretary Prof. Karega Mutahi has ordered school principles who had expelled student for wearing the hijab to readmit them immediately.
