North Korea: Government Steps Up Persecution of Christians

SEOUL – Government policy that religion poses a security threat has led to an increase in persecution of Christians, and subsequent executions of those found guilty of religious practice, the AFP reported on July 24.  Do Hee-Yun, the leader of a coalition of human rights groups in South Korea investigating abuses in the North, reported that on June 16 a Christian woman, Ri Hyon-Ok, was publicly executed for distributing Bibles.
