Canada: Government Ruling on Photo ID Upsets Religious Community

ALBERTA HUTTERITE – A lengthy legal battle between the Alberta government and two Hutterite colonies over driver’s licenses requiring photo ID came to a close on July 24 with a 4-3 ruling from the Supreme Court upholding provincial laws for photo licenses, Calgary Herald reported on July 25.  The two colonies have resisted the ID requirement as they interpret the Second Commandment’s ban on “graven images” as meaning it’s a sin for their photos to be taken.
