HANOI – Half a million Catholics took to the streets on July 26 to protest against police violence and the attack on religious practitioners at the ruins of the confiscated Tam Toa church on July 20, Asia News reported on July 27.  In addition to helping orchestrate the Sunday protests, the Diocese of Vinh has sent a letter to the local government of Hanoi, calling for the release of the Catholics arrested in Tam Toa, medical care for those beaten by the police and the return of church property taken during the confrontation.
