Italy: Court Rules Against Catholic Religion Courses in High School

ROME – The Administrative Tribunal ruling on August 12 that public high school students may no longer receive academic credit for studying Catholicism has been met with strong objections from Church leaders and center-right politicians, the JTA reported on August 13.  The court ruling followed an appeal by 24 secular and non-Catholic groups against a 2007 policy that permitted students to receive academic credit for courses on Catholicism.
