Singapore: President Warns that Aggressive Proselytism Threatens Peace

SINGAPORE – In his National Day speech on August 16 President Lee Hsien Loong warned that “aggressive preaching” by religious groups and attempts at conversion threatened the nation’s stability, citing the example of a Christian couple jailed in early 2009 for distributing religious pamphlets deemed offensive to adherents by other faiths, the AP reported on August 17.  President Lee said that in Singapore: “The most visceral and dangerous fault line is race and religion.”
