Afghanistan: President Offers Secret Pardon to Journalist Student

KABUL – Parwez Kambukhsh, a journalism student jailed for asking questions concerning women’s’ rights under Islam, has been freed by the President after almost two years in jail, the AP reported on September 7.  The President signed a pardon in secret for Kambukhsh who had been convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death.  Kambukhsh has reportedly fled Afghanistan out of fear of reprisal attacks.
