Sudan: Journalist Fined for Wearing Pants in Public

NAIROBI – Lubna Hussein has been fined $200 instead of being sentenced to receiving lashes for wearing pants in public, the NY Times reported on September 7.  Hussein has vowed to appeal the sentence and Manal Awad Khogali, one of her lawyers, said the judge hearing the case had called only police witnesses to testify and refused to allow Hussein to represent herself.
