Iran: Police Crackdown on Un-Islamic Behavior

TEHRAN – As part of the government’s policy to discourage “un-Islamic” behavior, police have warned shopkeepers not to display female mannequins without a hijab, not to display bow ties and neckties and have also forbidden male shopkeepers from selling women’s underwear, the BBC reported on September 22.  Iranians who violate dress codes for the first time are generally cautioned, but repeat offenders can face legal consequence and receive “guidance classes.”
