Vietnam: Buddhist Leader Petitions Government Over Monastery Eviction

HANOI – Thich Nhat Hanh, a renowned Buddhist teacher, has decried the eviction of nearly 400 his followers from the Bat Nha monastery in Lam Dong Province on September 27, the AP reported on October 9.  Thich Nhat Hanh wrote a letter to President Nguyen Minh Triet in which he criticized the police who evicted his followers, and he has received support from Vietnamse intellectuals who have issued a petition on his behalf.
