UK: Sikh Boy Expelled From School Over Dagger

LONDON – A 14 year old Sikh boy who attended the Compton School has been withdrawn after he requested to wear the kirpan, a traditional dagger, which is one of five article of faith that a Sikh must carry at all times, the BBC reported on October 13.  The school had offered that the student could carry a 2-inch version of the dagger welded into a sheath that would be suitable for school, a compromise that his parents rejected as the miniature dagger was a replica and not a genuine kirpan.
